The Parthenon is a former temple on the Athenian Acropolis in Greece, dedicated to the goddess Athena during the fifth century BC. Situated atop the Acropolis in Athens, the Parthenon's construction coincided with the height of the Greek empire. Initiated in 447 BCE, it took nine years to complete the structure, with an additional six years needed for the decorative elements.
