ARC DE TRIOMPHE (FRANCE)
The Arc de Triomphe, an iconic symbol of Paris, was commissioned by Napoleon Bonaparte, a prominent French leader who became Emperor of the French, on August 15, 1806. The construction of the Arc was completed after his rule ended. In 1810, when Napoleon married Marie-Louise, a smaller wooden replica of the Arc was used as the backdrop for their wedding, symbolizing their union and marking an important moment in history.
